One of the greatest legacies The Vikings leave in Ireland is the creation of Cities and the naming of them.
The Vikings first arrive in Dublin sometime around 800/850 AD. They come from Norway and Denmark and make their way down the Irish Sea, which separates Ireland from Britain. Those Vikings who settle in Dublin would have taken a right turn off the Irish Sea into the River Liffey, which dissects Dublin today.
They settle in the large pool of water a short distance from the River Liffey, park their Long-Boats and start to explore.
That same big pool of water becomes a focal point for the Vikings and they later name the City after it.
